Development of a modular battery
Abstract
Over 90 hermetically sealed Nickel-Cadmium cells for use in space missions were manufactured and 16 cells, randomly chosen, were submitted to a high mechanical stress level test. A battery module of 24 cells was developed. The mechanical test procedures applied to this module were chosen to meet the requirements of the launcher Ariane. A cold plate temperature range from -10 C to +30 C was required. Tests were performed on 3 modules. Test results are positive for both battery types.
