Turbulent flow downstream of a backward-facing step
Abstract
The k-W model of turbulence (k = specific kinetic energy of the fluctuating motion, W = time-mean square of vorticity fluctuations) and a flow visualization technique in which the test body is pulled through partially dyed fluid, were applied to turbulent flow downstream of a backward facing step. Results show that the k-W model performs as well as the k-epsilon model. The flow visualization technique highlights the intermittency of the turbulence.
