Analysis and summary of OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) cold water pipe costs

Six CWP preliminary designs were included in the analysis. These included two Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Designs (Nos. 1,4), an Elastomer Design (No.2), a Polyethylene Design (No. 3), a Stiffened Steel Shell (No. 5), and a Bottom Mounted Steel Design No. 6), Designs Nos. 1-3 were performed by TRW. Designs Nos. 4-6 were performed by Science Applications Inc. (SAI). Each contractor developed cost estimates according to DOE's Work Breakdown structure (WBS) and reported them in their reports. These estimates were reviewed and further analyzed by TSC.
