Precise orbit determination for ERS-1
Abstract
Orbit characteristics and major perturbing forces acting on ERS-1 were studied. Major dynamic error sources are Earth's magnetic field, atmospheric drag, and solar and Earth radiation. For laser, TRANET and PRARE tracking systems, measurement accuracy and instantaneous station position accuracy (in inertial space) were investigated. Orbital differences were calculated for gravity, atmospheric, and albedo models. An error model was derived. The contributions of individual error sources to satellite position errors were computed for a 3 day and an 11 min data arc.
