A compilation catalog in the direction of the galactic center
Abstract
This paper describes the construction of a catalog of positions and proper motions for 130 stars in the direction of the galactic center. All available information for stars within approx. 2 deg of this point has been utilized to produce the best and densest possible reference system. The reference frame of the catalog is that of the Southern Reference Star (SRS) program. The typical star in this catalog has a position and angular velocity based on 16 observations from six source catalogs whose epochs of observation span 77 years. The root mean square positional uncertainty is 0.49 at 1975.0. A total of 13 source catalogs dating back to 1847 have been used. Additional information included central dates for right acension and declination, position and proper motion variances, identification numbers, and apparent magnitudes.
