Advanced power-conversion concepts for HVDC transmission systems
Abstract
Increasing complexity of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems places new demands on alternating current/direct current (ac/dc) power converters. The possibility of using advanced power conversion techniques, specifically force commutated conversion, is discussed. Recommended further work includes computer simulation studies, a survey of the future availability of solid state switching devices, a review of advanced converter designs, and finally, the actual design of an HVDC converter that uses advanced conversion concepts.
