Fractional analysis of Reynolds stress distribution in complex shear flows
Abstract
A method for the analysis of the 2D Reynolds stress in complex shear flows with separation and relaxation is developed and applied to published experimental velocity profiles. The theoretical approach of Savulescu et al. (1981) is employed. It is found that the distribution of nu(T) continues to scale with the distribution of h, but that the value of nu(Tmax) is significantly different from that in equilibrium shear layers. A new expression for h(asterisk)(Ua) is shown in tables and graphs to agree well with experimentally determined values for nearly equilibrium flows.
