Analysis of threshold effects in estimating the location of a random-signal source
Abstract
A determination is made of the characteristics of the maximum likelihood estimation of the location of the source of a Gaussian signal in the Fresnel zone of the receiving antenna, with allowance for threshold effects. Relationships are derived which make possible a substantiated choice of observation time and antenna dimensions, assuring the absence of anomalous errors and the closeness of the characteristics of maximum likelihood estimation to those of the effective estimation.
