Methods and devices of wavelength-division multiplexing in fiber/optic communication systems
Abstract
The implementation of wavelength-division multiplexing in fiber-optic communications is examined. Particular consideration is given to an optical demultiplexer using a silicon echelette grating, a microoptic grating multiplexer and optical isolators, a two-dimensional grating unit cell demuliplexer for thin-film optical waveguides, and a multiwavelength monolithic integrated fiber-optic terminal. The feasibility of implementing wavelength-division multiplexing of tens of channels in one waveguide tens of kilometers long is indicated.
