Detection of a pulsed laser signal scattered by the earth's surface
Abstract
Computer-simulation results are presented concerning the reception of a pulsed laser signal scattered by a rough surface, represented by random fields of heights and coefficients of scattering. A suboptimal detection procedure is synthesized which consists in the summation of the 3/2 power from photocounts obtained in the time-resolution interval of the pulsed laser system, and the comparison of the sum obtained with the detection threshold.
