Possible generalization of the Kirchhoff approximation in problems of wave diffraction by transparent inhomogeneous objects
Abstract
An approximate method for the description of the diffraction field in the scalar problem of wave scattering by transparent inhomogeneous objects that are large compared with the wavelength is developed for the example of a radially inhomogeneous plasma cylinder. Results of calculations of the differential cross section on the basis of exact and approximate formulas are compared for a special type of permittivity profile, admitting an exact solution.
