On the radiation of a cylindrical array through an inhomogeneous-dielectric layer
Abstract
The paper presents a theoretical study of a two-dimensional cylindrical phased-array surrounded by an inhomogeneous-dielectric layer. A Green-function approach is used to determine the field formed by the array both inside and outside the dielectric layer, including in the far zone. Compared with the traditional cylindrical phased-array, the type of system considered here is shown to produce an increase in the power flux density in the main beam without a significant deterioration of directivity properties. The use of elements situated on the shaded side leads to a 63-percent increase in the power flux density with only a slight change in directive gain.
