Approximation of the statistical properties of a communication channel by a generalized power model
Abstract
A universal model for the probability distribution functions of an additive radio noise envelope in the case of narrow-band reception is presented. The model is applied to signal detection on a background of atmospheric radio noise for the case of VLF and LF radio wave propagation in the eastern Arctic. The results are discussed in relation to the use of optimal and quasi-optimal limiters in radio-navigation receiving systems.
