Investigation of the gain and noise coefficient of a transistorized autoparametric microwave amplifier-converter
Abstract
A method is developed for calculating the noise and gain coefficients of a transistorized autoparametric amplifier-converter (AAC) in which the frequency can be up-converted (combination frequency = pump frequency + signal frequency) or down-converted (combination frequency = pump frequency - signal frequency), with allowance for the nonlinearity of the emitter and collector pump circuits. Optimal values of load and resistance are determined for a given pump power. Theoretical calculations are compared with experimental results for a pump frequency of 10.5-11.5 GHz, a signal frequency of 1.5 GHz for an up-converting AAC, and a signal frequency of 3.5 GHz for a down-converting AAC. A satisfactory agreement between theoretical and experimental results makes it possible to recommend the proposed calculation method for assessing the choice of transistor for an AAC circuit.
