Analysis of the radiation characteristics of an aperture antenna excited by a periodic pulsed signal
Abstract
Harmonic analysis using the Huygens-Kirchhoff method is employed to determine the far-field radiation characteristics of an antenna excited by periodic pulsed signals with finite-duration fronts whose position determines the information content of the signal. A relationship is established between the parameters of a signal in the form of a periodic sequence of heteropolar trapezoidal pulses and the period of a sinuosoidal signal. This relationship is used to obtain limiting relations for parameters of the periodic pulsed signal which provide for an enhancement of antenna directivity or which make possible a reduction in antenna dimensions without a deterioration in directivity.
