Improved active magnetic suspension
Abstract
A new technique for an active magnetic suspension is proposed here. The salient feature is that the floated ferromagnetic body is magnetized directly by a feedback controller so as to maintain it in stable suspension beneath a rare-earth cobalt magnet. This results in a large load-bearing capacity and a high stiffness coefficient. Consequently, stability is ensured even under large perturbations.
