Beta Decay of the B Meson.
Abstract
This thesis details a search for electrons with energy greater than 1 GeV within hadronic events. These events are produced through e('+)e('-) annihilation in the center of mass energy range from 10.2 to 10.6 GeV. The measurement of electron production on the (UPSILON)(4S) resonance yields a branching ratio B (--->) Xe(nu)/B ( --->) all = 13.3% (+OR-) 1.4% (+OR-) 2%, where the first error is statistical and the second, systematic. The shape of this electron spectrum yields an upper limit on the ratio of KM matrix elements of (VBAR)V(,bu)/V(,bc)(VBAR) < 0.19, at 90% C.L.
