Comparison between vortex flowmeter and pressure flowmeters
Abstract
Measuring characteristic, measurement uncertainty, and pressure loss of vortex and pressure flowmeters were compared. The systematic errors due to flow sensor and Reynolds number are of the same order of magnitude. The domain in which the vortex body dimensions can be chosen is substantially smaller than the domain of opening ratio of the pressure flow sensor. The pressure loss of the vortex flowmeter is lower than that of the diaphragm, about the same as that of the nozzle, and higher than that of the Venturi tube. For the vortex flowmeter no correction factor has to be taken into account for the effect of compressibility. The measuring domain of the vortex flowmeter is larger since its characteristic is linear contrary to the quadratic characteristic of pressure flowmeters.
