Cyclotron-resonance mode selection in Cerenkov relativistic-electron rf sources
Abstract
A mode selection principle is described which has been implemented in two versions of a carcinotron with an E(02) working mode. Both versions were arranged at a wavelength of 4 cm at an electron-beam current of 10 kA and an electron energy of 1.3 MeV (the voltage across the diode being 1.5 MV). The E(02) mode was stably excited in each case, as shown by measurements of the frequency and structure of the radiated RF field.
