2-micron-range rare earth laser
Abstract
A study is made of the most important energy characteristics of the BaYb2F8:Er 1.965-micron laser (the Er occupying 8 percent of the Yb sites) obtained at the experimentally determined optimal value of the resonator coupling coefficient. It is shown that this laser combines high lasing efficiency with a high specific input energy. These properties make it possible to achieve high specific output energies from the medium and hence high laser output energies at feasible dimensions of the active element.
