Motion of a vortex pair between parallel walls
Abstract
Complex-variable function theory methods are used to investigate the motion of two point vortices between parallel walls. An exact integration solution is obtained with an additional integral of motion (momentum) due to the translational invariance of the system with respect to displacements parallel to the walls. Examples of several trajectory types are numerically calculated. The solution of the problem reduces to an exact integration of unsteady ideal fluid flow, and is of a purely kinematic character.
