A color-selected magnetic white dwarf.
Abstract
During a survey for ultraviolet-excess objects in the plane of the Galaxy,a 15th-magnitude white dwarf with an unusual absorption spectrum was discovered. The features are shown to be resolved Zeeman components of hydrogen in a magnetic field of approximately 13 million gauss. Thus, this is one of the rare magnetic white dwarfs found via color selection.
