Dependence of track-gates on coordinate system and maneuver adjustment of the tracking filter
Abstract
The influence of the choice of tracking coordinate systems and of tracker structure on the size of the correlation gate is studied. It is concluded that a polar coordinate tracker is superior to the Cartesian tracker for track gates, especially when the radar distance measurement error is small compared to the azimuthal error. An adaptive tracker structure is recommended for reducing tracking error for straight flight as well as for sharp target maneuvering.
