Stimulated Raman scattering in fibers in the ultraviolet
Abstract
Efficient stimulated Raman scattering at 342 nm was obtained in multimode fused silica fibers pumped by a conventional N2 laser. The values of the intensity-dependent absorption coefficient and the Raman-gain coefficient were determined: alpha(1) = 3.3 x 10 to the -6th cm/MW and gamma = 2.9 x 10 to the -11th cm/W, respectively. Raman scattering by the OH impurities in the fiber was observed at 385 nm.
