Superfluorescence in a cavity
Abstract
We analyze the superfluorescent emission from an extended atomic sample contained in a unidirectional ring cavity, such that the atomic linewidth is smaller than the cavity linewidth. This system is governed by a sine-Gordon-type equation which includes a linear loss term, with a suitable boundary condition. We show that the time evolution is well described by the mean field model, and discuss extensively the role of the cavity parameters, emphasizing the differences from superfluorescence in free space.
