Ultraviolet properties of galactic globular clusters.
Abstract
Conclusions drawn from ANS and IUE satellite surveys of galactic globular clusters are presented. The ANS instrumentation recorded spectra from 27 objects in five wavebands. High correlations with the blue horizontal branch star (HB) spectrum were found while extremely blue stars were rare. The IUE provided spectra on the central regions using a low dispersion mode. Data on all galactic objects are included, and the number of HB stars in eight of the clusters are estimated. The IUE data demonstrate that components can be characterized if one or more UV bright stars can be discerned. The clusters scanned are taken as representative of most globular clusters.
