Calculation of the diffraction of laser beams with a smooth profile of intensity variation
Abstract
A method based on the representation of a diffracted wave in the form of a superposition of TEM(pl) modes is used to analyze the diffraction of laser beams with a smooth profile of intensity distribution. Results of calculations are presented regarding the field distribution of waves diffracted by a 'soft' diaphragm and by the end-face of the gas-discharge tube of a waveguide laser. The theoretical results are verified experimentally.
