Selecting intermediate orbits for the outer satellites of Jupiter
Abstract
New results are added to those presented by Orlov and Solovaia (1980). The size of the differences between parameters of the same type in the variants of the intermediate orbits constructed by Orlov and Solovaia for a given satellite is investigated. Attention is also given to the way these differences change when satellites close to the planet are compared with those more distant. Data are presented in tabular form which make it possible to judge the expediency of a particular intermediate orbit in constructing a theory of motion for the outer satellites of Jupiter.
