Observations of H2O maser emission in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
Abstract
A search for H2O maser emission towards 10 continuum sources in the Large Magellanic Cloud was made with the Parkes radio telescope (beamwidth 1.7 arcmin). Maser emission was detected near three H II regions, including the 30 Doradus nebula; the positions of the main features were estimated with an accuracy of + or - 15 arcsec. The maser luminosities were comparable to the typical value of H2O masers in galactic H II regions. Upper intensity limits for maser emission in the remaining sources were 0.5 Jy. In contrast with previous observations, no emission was detected near N159.
