The emission dynamics and spectra of semiconductor lasers
Abstract
A knowledge of the dynamics and spectral composition of the emission of injection lasers is essential in solving various problems related to the use of these lasers in data processing, storage, and transmission systems. The discussion presented covers the effects of modulation and automodulation, hysteresis, bistability, spectrum formation, and side mode suppression. Other topics discussed include external resonators, distributed feedback, the degree of monochromaticity, and line width. The treatment is based on a simple injection laser model and the basic concepts of quantum mechanics and oscillation theory.
