Antennas and EMC
Abstract
The problem of reducing antenna side and back lobes is addressed. Consideration is given mainly to the aperture-type antennas used in radio communications. The effect of antenna sidelobes on the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of radio systems is assessed, and the degradation in the qualitative indicators describing communications lines caused by insufficient spatial selectivity in antennas is analyzed. An analysis is also made of the main causes of the degradation in the directivity properties of antennas, both in the near-field and in the far-field sector. Attention is also given to the synthesis of aperture antennas with suppressed sidelobe emission in the angle sector. The use of adaptive antennas in reducing interference is then discussed.
