Jai Singh, his European astronomers and the Copernican revolution.
Abstract
From an examination of the religious and social background of Sawai Jai Singh's European assistants, the article draws the conclusion that the Europeans, because of their own theological beliefs and prejudices, may not have presented the Copernican revolution to him in its true perspective. And, for the telescopic sight, it is suggested that the news of its invention may not have reached him in time before the observatories were conceived.
