Heat and mass transfer toward bluff bodies
Abstract
An analysis is made of heat and mass transfer toward the front part of a body up to the point of laminar boundary layer separation from the body surface and toward the rear part of a body following the separation. it is assumed that flow in the vortex zone behind the body attains the state of developed turbulence. Expressions relating the Nusselt number in the front region to the Reynolds and Prandtl numbers are obtained, with coefficients calculated for a cylinder and a sphere. For the rear region, similar relationships are obtained which are accurate to within coefficients of the order of unity. It is noted that the latter must be verified experimentally.
