Estimation of the vortex ratio and Karman constant for vortexes
Abstract
Similarity criteria are evaluated for swirling jet flows produced by vortex generators of various types. The parameters of natural vortexes are compared with those of vortexes generated in laboratory, and it is shown that in the case of laboratory models the Karman constant is considerably higher than in the case of natural vortexes. It is concluded that in comparing vortexes of different physical nature, it is essential that dynamic similarity be established in both the vortex ratio and the Karman constant.
