Recent improvements to the UK national microwave attenuation standards
Abstract
Five configurations that have been developed for use with the two microwave synthesized sources that will replace equipment for the highest echelon microwave attenuation measurements that is now approaching obsolescence in the United Kingdom are discussed. The first is a 0.05-18-GHz parallel 50-kHz subtitution system which contains an inductive voltage divider as the reference standard. The second is a very low drift series 50-kHz substitution system. The third is a series substitution system that employs coherent detection and has a dynamic range of 150 dB.The fourth is a 0.05-18GHz-voltage ratio system for the automatic calibration of programmable attenuators, and the fifth is a very stable microwave bridge for the precise measurement of waveguide wall loss.
