Comments on 'Singularity in Green's function and its numerical evaluation'
Abstract
Comments are presented on a study conducted by Lee et al. (1980) concerning the second derivatives of the Newtonian potential. The first and most significant of these comments is with respect to the identification of (1.2) with (2.1) and with the region containing the singularity being arbitrary in shape. It is pointed out that the result is not new. It can be found in identical form in Guenter's (1967) treatise on potential theory which appeared first in French in 1934. The second comment regards the abruptness with which (2.4) is introduced. The third and final comment is concerned with the remark in which Lee et al. (1980) raise the question of whether the H-continuity on phi can be relaxed. This question has been dealt with by Mikhlin (1965).
