Transient response of an infinite cylindrical antenna
Abstract
Wu (1961) and Brundell (1960) have independently provided an exact solution of the transient response of an infinite cylindrical antenna by a Fourier transform technique. The present investigation has the objective to provide accuracy checks on existing numerical results obtained by typical time-domain schemes in connection with studies conducted by Felsen (1976) and Liu and Mei (1973). A second objective of the investigation is to show that a simple analytical formula can be derived which describes the overall waveform, although the exact solution is in terms of a complicated one-dimensional integral. Wu's exact solution for transient response of an infinite cylindrical antenna is compared to results obtained with the aid of approximate numerical techniques. The results are found to be in good agreement.
