Gain and efficiency of a stimulated Cherenkov optical klystron
Abstract
A design is developed for an optical klystron oscillator based on the stimulated Cherenkov interaction between light and relativistic electrons. The Cherenkov effect utilizes an index-matching medium to achieve energy and momentum conservation for energy transfer from the electrons to an electromagnetic wave. The gain and efficiency of such an optical klystron oscillator are analyzed as a function of wavelength.
