On the effect of a large temperature difference on the velocity and temperature profiles for the turbulent flow of air in a tube
Abstract
A number of studies have been conducted regarding the problem of a gas flowing inside a duct under conditions involving a large difference of the temperatures of wall and gas. However, not much is known regarding the gas temperature distribution normal to the wall or the gas velocity distribution under the considered conditions. Mizushina et al. (1976) have reported velocity and temperature measurements for a turbulent flow of a hot gas inside a tube. Their approach to the correlation of the gas velocity distribution in turbulent flow in the presence of a large temperature difference is different from the correlation procedure suggested by Dalle Donne and Meerwald (1973). In the present investigation, a comparison is conducted of the correlation method of Dalle Donne and Meerwald and the velocity (and temperature) distribution measurements of Mizushina et al. It is found that the measurements of Mizushina et al. confirm the correlation method of Dalle Donne and Meerwald.
