The Development of the Electromagnetic Cascade Showers Initiated by High-Energy Electrons and Gamma-Rays in the Hot Photon Gas
Abstract
Attention is given to the mechanism of electromagnetic cascade shower generation which involves the passage of high energy electrons and gamma rays through hot plasma in the nuclei of active galaxies and quasars. The relativistic electromagnetic cascade shower phenomenon is studied in the QSO 3C 273, which was observed in 1978 by the COS B satellite.
