The possibility of using meteor streams for distinguishing short-period wave motions
Abstract
To localize the region being probed for internal gravity waves, use is made of data obtained from observations of Perseid meteors in 1978 (Punyshev et al., 1978). The localization derives from the fact that the fixed velocity of the meteor stream limits the altitude range to 99 + or - 6 km. It is shown that the use of meteors makes it possible to increase the resolving power of the meteor method in observations of internal gravity waves and to detect wave trains having periods of less than 30 min.
