Coupled-wave theory regarding phase-locked-array lasers
Abstract
A derivation is obtained for the phase relationship between adjacent emitters of coupled-waveguide lasers. The theoretical approach in this investigation is based on coupled-wave theory and is very analogous to the FM mode-locking problem in lasers. The linearized theory shows that the relative phase difference between the fields of adjacent emitters is fixed at 0 or 180 deg, which results respectively in single-lobe or double-lobe narrow far-field patterns under a regime where the number of emitters is quite large.
