The effect of an elastic wall on the boundary layer
Abstract
The hydrodynamic friction of elastic plates in a hydraulic tunnel was measured, and it was determined that the elastic plates have a selective effect on the boundary layer. The value of the integral effect and the range of Reynolds numbers where the maximum is attained are associated with the dynamic viscoelastic properties of the elastomers used, determined under cyclic loading. The selective effect of the elastic surfaces is assessed from the point of view of pulsation-energy absorption.
