The nonorthogonal-series method in problems of electromagnetic wave diffraction by coated bodies
Abstract
The nonorthogonal-series method possesses a compact numerical scheme owing to a simple analytical representation of the approximate solution; in addition, the method is characterized by a strict criterion for the a posteriori assessment of the accuracy of the approximate solution obtained. This paper elaborates the basic principles underlying the application of the nonorthogonal-series method to electromagnetic wave diffraction by bodies with dielectric coatings, and evaluates the effectiveness of this method. It is concluded that the simplicity of the numerical algorithm and the reliability of the criterion of a posteriori assessment have made it possible to generate a set of standard programs for investigating diffraction by impedance, dielectric, and ideally conducting bodies with coatings.
