Heat transfer analysis for conjugate forced convection-conduction in a plate fin
Abstract
The conjugate forced convection-conduction heat transfer of a plate fin is analyzed in this paper. In addition than conventional uniform convective heat transfer coefficient assumptions along the plate, solutions are found for the coupled conduction equation for the fin and the thermal boundary layer equations for the fluid over the fin. An implicit finite difference method and an inverse matrix method are employed in the analysis. The results of the present calculations are in good agreement with Sparrow's (1982) results. It is found that the conventional fin model yields good prediction for overall heat transfer rate but may have serious errors in the prediction of local heat tranfer rate.
