Heat transfer analysis for conjugate forced convection-conduction in a plate fin
Abstract
A conjugate forced convection-conduction heat transfer of a plate fin is analyzed in this paper. Assuming conventional uniform convective heat transfer coefficients along the plate, the coupled conduction equation is solved for fin and the thermal boundary layer equations for the fluid over the fin. An implicit finite difference method and an inverse matrix method are employed in the analysis. The results of these efficient calculations are in good agreement with Sparrow's (1981, 1982) results. It is also found that the conventional fin model yields good predictions for the overall heat transfer rate but could have serious error in the prediction of local heat transfer rate.
