Simple method for estimating atmospheric absorption at 1 to 15 GHz
Abstract
The present investigation is concerned with the development of a procedure for estimating atmospheric gaseous absorption at frequencies in the range from 1 to 15 GHz and slant path elevation angles in the range from 0 to 90 deg. Only frequency and elevation angle are used as input parameters. The method is based on the standard expression for slant path attenuation by atmospheric gases. The method is illustrated by obtaining equations for values of surface water vapor concentration and surface temperature, taking into account two different standard atmospheric conditions. The reported simple method appears to be quite useful for general systems calculations.
