The quadrupole oscillations of neutron stars.
Abstract
The influence of the equation of state of matter (in the nuclear density regime) on the dynamical behavior of neutron stars is investigated. The properties of the quadrupole (f-mode) oscillations of neutron stars constructed from 13 equations of state are presented. An efficient algorithm for computing the complex eigenfrequencies of the nonradial (p and f-mode) oscillations of neutron stars is presented. The results of the present computations are compared to relevant astrophysical observations.
