Detection of CH3 OH J=5 --- 4 lines around 242 GHz from OMC-1.
Abstract
It is pointed out that methanol has already been observed in about 35 transitions toward Orion molecular cloud 1 (OMC-1). The present investigation is concerned with observations which were conducted in 1980 October with the 3.8 m diameter UK Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) and NASA's 3 m Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) on top of Mauna Kea, HI. At a frequency of 242 GHz, 16 methanol lines produced by the J = 5 to 4, Delta k = O transitions of CH3OH A and E were detected. These lines originate from levels with upper level energies ranging from 26 to 87 per cm above the ground state. Seven of these lines were observed before by Loren et al. (1981).
