Dynamic characteristics of neutral-atom streams of interstellar origin in earth orbit
Abstract
The penetration of interstellar-gas streams into the inner solar system is examined with particular emphasis on the characteristics of streams of interstellar helium in earth orbit and the possibility of their direct measurement. Results of numerical calculations of interstellar-helium stream parameters are presented, and the heating of this stream by elastic collisions with solar-wind protons is investigted. It is shown that the interaction of interstellar streams in the solar wind leads to the formation of a solar-wind neutral component. The characteristics of this component in earth orbit are calculated.
